MAZDA Technology and Brand Term Glossary

Not every new Mazda model comes with a glossary, but the proprietary technology names across the lineup deserve one. Each branded term represents a specific engineering or design choice, and knowing what those choices mean gives you a clearer picture of what you’re actually comparing between models. i-ACTIV AWD® 

i-Activ AWD® is a system that reads steering angle, brake pressure, and outside temperature to distribute torque proactively, before your traction is compromised. Rather than reacting to wheel slip after the fact, it prepares the vehicle for the surface ahead, which is a difference you’re sure to feel on wet pavement or packed snow. 

SKYACTIV®-Technology 

Skyactiv®-Technology blends the powertrain, body structure, and chassis into a single unified platform to bring out their full performance potential. You feel that in how models like the Mazda CX-5 move—responding, absorbing, and transitioning in a way that feels coordinated across conditions rather than isolated to any one component. 

Kodo Design® 

Every Mazda vehicle’s visual identity is governed by a philosophy called Kodo Design®, which draws on the idea that motion can be captured in stillness. The result is a surface language that emphasizes movement and athleticism and carries the same visual logic from the exterior profile into the cabin layout. 

MAZDA Radar Cruise Control™ 

Mazda Radar Cruise Control™ uses a forward-facing radar to track the vehicle ahead of you and adjusts your pace automatically to hold a safe following gap. This system helps to reduce fatigue on long stretches of I-90 or I-495. 

i-ACTIVSENSE® 

i-Activsense® is Mazda’s portfolio of available driver-assistance technologies, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Warning. The suite supports your judgment rather than replacing it, adding awareness and responsiveness while keeping you in control.
