The 2023 Mazda CX-50 vs 2023 Toyota RAV4

2023 Mazda CX-50 Exterior
A crossover SUV sits at the intersection of two body styles because it can capably drive on city streets and traverse rough terrain, without compromising in either category. The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is an all-new crossover SUV that is just as capable on the trails as it is on the highway.
We know it can be tricky to sift through numerous viable SUV options to find the perfect one. To make your car search easier, our team at Sentry West Mazda is comparing two popular models: the 2023 Mazda CX-50 and the 2023 Toyota RAV4.

Technical Information

If you are looking for versatile performance and standard all-wheel drive capabilities, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is the way to go. This new Mazda model offers 10 trims, all equipped with i-Activ AWD®.
The 2.5 S, the entry-level trim, uses a naturally aspirated, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV®-G engine that generates 187 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. From the 2.5 Turbo trim onward, the lineup substitutes this engine for a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that delivers 256 horsepower and 320 lb-feet of torque.
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 possesses both fewer trims and engine varieties. The lineup has six trims, all equipped with a 2.5-liter engine that delivers 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. All trims except the Adventure and Off-Road trims have front-wheel drive by default, with the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive (AWD) instead.

Cabin Comforts

2023 Mazda CX-50 Cabin
When you compare the interior of the Mazda CX-50 with the Toyota RAV4, the former model is clearly superior. Features that you’ll find in the base-level Mazda CX-50—but not the Toyota RAV4—include:
  • Power sliding-glass panoramic moonroof with one-touch-open features
  • Push Button Start
  • Eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support
  • Leather-wrapped gear selector and steering wheel
  • Half leatherette-trimmed seats
  • 10.25-inch full-color display (over three inches larger than the standard Toyota RAV4 display)

Safety

Both models share some safety features in common. Adaptive cruise control helps the cars remain a fixed distance from the vehicle in front, even as traffic speeds change. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking detect an imminent accident and deploy the brakes to avoid obstacles.
However, the Mazda CX-50 features numerous standard safety features that you won’t find in the base-level Toyota RAV4, such as Driver Attention Alert, which sends a warning when it detects distracted driving behaviors.
It also offers standard Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which is only offered on the base-level Toyota RAV4 as part of an available options package. Talk to our Shrewsbury Mazda dealers to learn more about this new Mazda model’s comprehensive safety suite.
